About this deal

The only thing I don’t like that much is that it can sound a bit crispyat times, but that isn’t that much of an issue really, since you can fix that with just a bit of EQ afterwards. Another great alternative to the AT2020 is the Rode NT1-A, which is a bit higher priced, but definitely sounds more professional.

Speech recordings confirmed that this mic has essentially the same sound character as its wired counterpart: rather than sounding completely neutral, it does add a hint of warmth to the lower mids in a vocal, and it imparts a very slightly compressed quality that's mildly reminiscent of some valve mics. In other words, it has a slightly flattering tonality. In past tests we've found the AT2020 to be kinder to female vocals than many budget microphones, and there's nothing to suggest that this version will be any different in that respect. The AT2020 USB+ is well suited to a wide range of vocal styles, though, and it can also double up as a very capable acoustic instrument mic. Of course, it can be used for recording acoustic and classical guitars as well, which is what I used it for before getting some of the other microphones I own. This means that you can choose to hear only what’s coming out of the PC, or to only hear the direct signal from the Mic, or a blend of those two. Now, similar to what I mentioned about the price differences in certain regions for the AT2020+, the same thing happens with the Rode NT USB.Here’s a post where I compare the Blue Yeti to the AT2020+, should you be interested. What do you get in the Box? I often refer to the AT2020+ as my top recommendation for anyone who is looking for a cardioid condenser USB microphone simply because of the overall sound quality. Equipped with a Micro-HDMI or USB to LightningThe AT2020USBi is designed for digital audio recording of an acoustic audio source on your computer, iPhone or iPad equipped with a Lightning or USB input. The microphone offers the same features as the critically acclaimed AT2020 ;cardioid studio microphone. It delivers sound quality and intelligibility of an ideal studio microphone for recording in a home studio, for podcasting or voice recording. “High quality a/D converter”

Additionally, it doesn’t provide you with a Gain control, which is just silly! Since you have to adjust this via the sound settings of your OS. Lastly, USB microphones are responsible for the Analog to Digital conversion, while with XLR ones the Audio Interface takes care of this, and they usually do a better job at it as well resulting in higher audio quality. You will have to get an Audio Interface and XLR microphones anyway, and what you spent on the USB microphone will be wasted. Audio Quality was extremely helpful, although I just need a little help & advice regarding drivers in the case of an AT2020XLR set up.

How does the Audio-Technica AT2020 sound?

Still, the much better route to take would be to go for an Audio Interface and a regular XLR microphone. Now, there’s one thing that you should consider before purchasing it, and that is the region of the world/country you’re in. One thing I like about the AT2020 is that it’s a smalland lightweight microphone, which makes it an excellent microphone for travelling and recording on the go.
