Her father and brother are both long gone, her brother’s title having gone to a distant cousin, and the only person that is really around for her is her brother’s best friend Sebastian Ives.Sebastian can’t stand to see his friend’s sister, the woman he’s been secretly in love with since childhood, jilted on the most important day of her life. When the newlywed couple arrives at the quaint home, they find it in a pretty poor state of disrepair as the caretakers have obviously not kept it up despite the continued, generous payments for its upkeep.

There’s humor as well as passion in this marriage-of-convenience story… and a twist that romance fans will probably see coming. It's the first rule of friendship among gentlemen: Don't even think about touching your best friend's sister. Spinsterhood wasn’t an especially appealing prospect—not only because she’d always dreamed of falling in love, setting up house, and having children—but because with Henry gone, the modest family fortune had passed to a third cousin. If she believed in something, she would argue her case with everything she had, and never back down. The story is about American heiress Lexie who eventually becomes engaged to Prince Adam whom she's had a crush on for most of her life.

I wanted something quick and nothing seemed to appeal to me, until I noticed this novella sitting on my kindle , thanks to the quarantine freebie the author gave to us! This novella was originally published in Rogues Rush In: a Regency Duet (2018), by Tessa Dare and Christi Caldwell It's the first rule of friendship among gentlemen: Don't even think about touching your best friend's sister.

Rafe thinks she will suit his brother but then he sees a different side of her, the one who likes clubbing and dancing. Love this novella - I also have it in paperback version too (Rogues Rush In) with the added bonus of a Christi Caldwell romance to indulge in, and indulge in I highly recommend you do! And the fact that their first fight as a married couple is about how to assemble the frame and slats on a Swedish bed frame without instructions (*cough* IKEA *cough*). After reading other works of Tessa Dare, namely Girl meets Duke trilogy, I had high hopes for this one. When it appeared that Mary was being jilted at the altar by her fiance, Sebastian stepped up and married her in the man's place, then took her to his seaside cottage for a short honeymoon. Its a novella, so not a lot of room for character growth, and I don't think the plot could handle much more anyway. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). I also liked that we got to see Sebastian run the gamut of emotions over her actions and it wasn’t slipped under the rug. Overall, I give the book 3 stars — it’s frothy and fun, but neither as memorable nor as entrancing as many of Dare’s longer books.
