It’s also a story about living in a prejudiced society which rewards certain egoistic behavioural patterns and humiliates the ones who do not conform to its norms and want to live according to their values of compassion, equality and kindness. Sabahattin Ali (1907-1948) was born in the Ottoman town of Egridere (now Ardino in southern Bulgaria). Even those who greatly admired the other works of Sabahattin Ali viewed this one as a puzzling aberration.

He is admired for the determination with which he defended his political beliefs, which are anchored through his writing. During the cold war, they were translated into a number of languages in the Soviet bloc, and they are still much read in Bulgaria. During last year’s election campaign, he went so far as to accuse Turkey’s LGBT community as being in league with Armenians, Kurds, and the hostile foreign powers that funded them. And though Maria Puder is the sort of free-thinking new woman he could never have imagined possible, the two form an intensely platonic friendship, in which Maria becomes more male than female, and Raif more female than male.Instead, he wrote Madonna in a Fur Coat, conjuring up a time and a place in which it was possible to be true to one’s nature, with air to breathe, and to live and love without pretence, if only for a brief period. When at last they make friends, it becomes clear that Raif’s reason for living cannot be his family.

He has lost his will to live, and eventually marries a woman that she doesn't like, and lives with her in between the furniture he bought for Maria. Wonderful description of life in Berlin at that time and also of what Turkey was like at that period.Publication dates are subject to change (although this is an extremely uncommon occurrence overall). Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. Sabahattin Ali's daughter, Filiz Ali, in an interview with BBC, has stated that she found Maria was inspired by a real life acquaintance of Sabahattin.
