Description

As a big fan of British humour, especially Monty Python and Black Adder, I purchased Fawlty Towers - The Complete Collection (30th Anniversary) for my wife and myself for a good laugh before the good night's sleep.

Communication Problems’ sees Basil (Cleese) forced to deal with a deaf guest while attempting to conceal his gambling win from Sybil (Prunella Scales). With his gangly frame and contortionist abilities, Cleese brilliantly punctuates Basil's outrageous faux pas with absurd gymnastics and turns Three Stooges-style pokes and kicks into a slapstick ballet.

The two other interviews are shorter: the Andrew Sachs interview is around 15 minutes and the interview with Prunella is even shorter. Written by John Cleese and Connie-Booth, Fawlty Towers remains one of the most inspired and best-loved TV series of all time.

In ‘Waldorf Salad’, some newly-arrived American guests’ request for transatlantic cuisine does not go down well with Basil in the kitchen. To mark its 30th anniversary, all 12 episodes of John Cleese and Connie Booth’s highly successful comedy series, set in a Torquay hotel, have been remastered. The answer to all these questions can be found in this, the complete and unexpurgated scripts of “Fawlty Towers”. It's a nice inclusion, but fans should be careful not to let Booth's participation be the defining reason to pick the set up.

Fawlty Towers" is far from my favorite sitcom (or even my favorite British sitcom), but it still has plenty of top-notch writing, sharp dialogue and brilliant physical comedy packed into its short run. I understand that their bickering is part of the joke, but it's distracting that their entire marriage consists of the characters' hatred for one another. Personally, I'm also more of a dialogue person than anything, and almost every episode has several good one-liners ("Racket? Finally, in 'The Wedding Party', Basil gets the wrong impression when some old friends of Polly (Booth)'s arrive at the hotel.
