Die Trying is hardly the greatest book in the history of American literature but all the same, it's a whole lot of fun. The jumpy guy with the second Glock was the weakest component of the team, but the leader had covered for him pretty well. I really enjoyed the first Jack Reacher novel, Killing Floor, but this second attempt was utter bilge.

He sat and heard it out until the last organ blast echoed to silence, which meant that as he got out of his car the three men were near enough for him to interpret some kind of intention in their approach.I just like a good story with interesting characters – I don’t want to see the horrific brutality, thanks. Meanwhile, Reacher, after witnessing Borken execute Loder, the leader of the kidnappers, for multiple failures, is shown around the camp with the intent of sending him back to the States with information on the militia's credibility.

I think this is going to be a problem with all of them if I’m completely honest but it didn’t stop me from enjoying it so I’ll carry on reading them. Ex-military MP drifter Jack Reacher gets into trouble again and fights, kicks, breaks and shoots his way out. Now that he is out of the Military, he has been traveling around and getting to know the country he spent so many years fighting for. Reacher is walking down a Chicago street when he sees a young woman with an injured leg struggling to deal with her cane and the dry cleaning she just picked up so he tries to help her out. The leader was twisted around in the front seat with his gun hand resting against the thick leather headrest.

Lee is the recipient of many awards, most recently Author of the Year at the 2019 British Book Awards. He’s always been able to figure out where he is and what’s going on, but back “home”, he’s at a loss. I really don't think I could ever get bored of reading about his adventures, he's my favourite fictional character at this stage. And now comes the but, I think, and we shall see, whether I might find these books becoming a little formulaic. This was a large room, better than forty feet by twenty, and it was more or less filled by a long polished table flanked by thirty chairs, fifteen on each side.

He'd spent three years in the Hoover Building as an Assistant Director of the FBI, and then he'd applied for a demotion and a pay cut to take him back to a Field Office. After Reacher fails to take advantage of an opportunity to escape during the night, Holly insists that he let her handle things. He was handcuffed to the young woman with the bad leg and within the first few minutes of their forced acquaintance they had worked out how to get as comfortable as they were ever going to get. Three guys, all of them maybe thirty or thirty-five, one leader, one solid follower, one jumpy follower. He is the recipient of many awards, most recently Author of the Year at the 2019 British Book Awards.

This was the first time they had worked for this particular employer, and there had been hints of more work to come. This is a fun read, and fans of the series certainly won't want to miss it, even though it requires more than just the usual suspension of disbelief. The bad guys here were just straight up wacko, whereas I prefer my bad guys to be a little more complex and captivating in their level of crazy, if that makes any sense. But at their remote destination, will raw courage and cunning be enough to overcome the hopeless odds? A long walk down the carpeted corridors of a lakeside house appropriate to a man who earned a thousand dollars on each of those three hundred days he worked.

After Killing Floor's complete first person narrative, I didn't much care for the always shifting third person narration from multitude of viewpoints. He just sat there in the gloom and used the hot dead time thinking and planning like he was trained to do.It is said one of his novels featuring his hero Jack Reacher is sold somewhere in the world every nine seconds. The driver eased the big sedan to a stop with the rear door lined up with the back of a small panel truck. The “whoever” here was Jack Reacher, and that pretty much sums up the tone of this long ‘adventure’.
